Lumata Health Raises $5.5MM to Accelerate Adoption of Its Industry-Leading Intelligent Eye Care Management Platform to Reduce Preventable Blindness

The new Series A+ investment fuels expansion of Lumata Health’s human-led, data-driven continuous care program into additional ophthalmology clinics to close the care adherence gap for millions of Americans at risk for blindness

RALEIGH, N.C. & OKLAHOMA CITY – Lumata Health, a technology-driven healthcare innovator empowering ophthalmology practices to enhance continuous care for those at risk of blindness from chronic eye diseases, announces an additional $5.5MM in venture funding. Led by Cortado Ventures, other round participants include Boyd Street Ventures, family offices, and additional private investors including dozens of leading ophthalmologists.

The new funding will expedite the onboarding of hundreds of thousands of newly contracted patients into Lumata Health’s continuous care program and support the launch of soon-to-be-announced strategic partnerships with key industry stakeholders.

“Ten million Americans are currently at risk of losing their vision and Lumata is leading the charge to stop preventable blindness by helping ophthalmology clinics with a personalized, patient-first solution. Our data-driven continuous care approach delivers critical, one-on-one support that patients need while reducing clinic workload,” said Landon Grace, co-founder and CEO of Lumata Health. “Clinics relying on Lumata Health’s platform and care support services have seen an unprecedented 60 percent reduction in delayed appointments, preserving patient vision and reducing total costs of care while also providing an additional revenue stream for providers.”

Many of the country’s largest and most forward-thinking eye care organizations count on Lumata Health’s platform to enhance patient care and improve adherence – eventually reaching more than 300,000 currently contracted patients – while also growing their revenue.

Lumata Health takes a holistic approach to care, combining behavioral information with clinical data to create tailored, high-impact interventions delivered by a team of highly-trained ophthalmic care coaches. Lumata’s Intelligent Engagement Platform, developed with over $2MM in support from the National Eye Institute, is the key to providing effective, data-driven interventions while maintaining the personal connection essential to supporting patients with chronic eye diseases. Blindness from chronic eye conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy is up to 95% preventable if patients see an eye care provider regularly, yet these conditions remain the leading causes of blindness in the US.
“As part of our mission to accelerate groundbreaking innovation from Midcontinent startups, we’re proud to support Lumata Health’s commitment to end preventable blindness, which is already delivering an impressive impact for thousands of patients throughout the U.S.,” said Nathaniel Harding, Managing Partner of Cortado Ventures. “The team and technology are some of the strongest we’ve seen, and the ever-increasing wave of inbound interest from providers across the country is a testament to Lumata Health’s unique and exciting market potential.”

Lumata Health’s founding team brings more than three decades of experience driving new treatments to the frontiers of retinal care. The company’s Clinical Advisory Board consists of more than 35 esteemed retinal, glaucoma, cornea, and comprehensive ophthalmologist specialists.

Lumata Health’s continuous care program is reimbursable under Medicare’s Chronic Care Management billing codes and covered by secondary, supplement, or Medicare Advantage plans. New providers can try out Lumata Health for 90 days with no upfront costs or EMR integration required.
